The Burj Al Arab Hotel - Dubai

Burj Al Arab Hotel

Location: Dubai, UAE
Interior Design: KCA International
Art Consultancy: Ophelia Art Consultancy

The Burj Al Arab is a true icon of luxury, featuring extraordinary art, bold design, architectural splendour, dancing fountains, and a breathtaking 180-metre high atrium. Known for its lavish interiors adorned with gold leaf, it has dominated Dubai’s skyline and remained an exclusive destination, accessible only to hotel residents and select advance reservation holders.

Ophelia Art Consultancy was invited by KCA International and the Burj Al Arab to develop a series of nine artworks for the new visitor experience.

To ensure a seamless visual journey, we worked directly with carpet and fabric samples from the hotel’s interiors. Our challenge was to create pieces that would integrate harmoniously into an already opulent and vivid environment, while still holding their own as powerful standalone artworks.

Founder Louise Duggan shared the inspiration behind the collection:

"We loved the idea that, while living, we share the energy of the elements — air, earth, fire, and water. Greek philosophy describes these as primal powers, essential and interdependent. Each supports life."

This concept was embodied through gold lines and accents of gold leaf, symbolizing the flow of energy through the hotel. The gold elements visually tied the collection together, but more importantly, they expressed the idea that every guest leaves a trace of their own energy behind — contributing to the ongoing life force of this remarkable space.

"Anyone who has visited this iconic hotel has left a little bit of their energy within its walls," Duggan reflects.
